Niobium sheets and plates supplied typically have a purity of 99.95%, with grades including pure niobium (UNS R04200), niobium alloyed with zirconium (UNS R04210), and other variations offering enhanced creep resistance and oxidation resistance. These materials have a melting point of about 2468°C, tensile strength around 125 MPa (18000 psi), yield strength near 73 MPa (10500 psi), and elongation of 15-20%, depending on thickness and treatment. Niobium’s body-centered cubic crystal structure provides excellent ductility and machinability, but it requires controlled atmospheres during processing to prevent contamination.
